Yvonne Harrison is an Assistant Professor in the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany, SUNY where she teaches courses in nonprofit governance and public management. Yvonne has conducted three international research investigations into the role and impact of chairs of nonprofit boards of directors as well as two national research studies exploring the impacts of information and communications technology on the management of volunteer resources in Canada’s nonprofit sector. For the last four years, she and colleague, Vic Murray of the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada have been studying the effectiveness of nonprofit governing boards and have developed an online nonprofit board effectiveness self-assessment diagnostic tool. This tool, known as the Board Check-Up, which can be accessed online for free, provides boards with a diagnostic and user-friendly report on the state of board effectiveness.
