President and CEO of the National Urban League to Speak at
Alliance for Nonprofit Management Conference in Atlanta
Washington, DC - Marc Morial, one of America's most influential nonprofit leaders, will deliver the closing keynote address at the Annual Conference of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management in Atlanta, Alliance Executive Director and CEO Tangie Newborn announced today.
Mr. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League and former Mayor of New Orleans, will speak during the closing luncheon session at 12:30 p.m., Friday, July 20, at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel. Closing out the three-day conference, this accomplished leader will send attendees back to their nonprofits, foundations and communities charged with investing in and building nonprofits for the future.
"Given the current competitive atmosphere in the philanthropic world, it is now the survival of the fittest nonprofits. We cannot expect to achieve the goals we've envisioned for our organizations without investing in the human and technological capital required to carry them out," said Morial.
The conference is expected to draw 500 nonprofit capacity builders, CEOs, grantmakers and leaders nationwide for three-days of intensive learning and networking to build their skills and enhance their businesses. Conference offerings also include executive coaching sessions, best practice awards, and an exhibit showcase featuring new products just for nonprofits.
"I am pleased to see two important partners of Citi come together and leverage each other's strengths to better serve nonprofits and communities at-large," said Natalie Abatemarco, Alliance Immediate Past Chair and Vice President of Citi Global Community Programs.
The Alliance conference will take place in Atlanta, July 18-20. This year's conference theme, "Pathways to Nonprofit Success" will be highlighted in more than 45 workshops led by some of the nation's top nonprofit experts and Alliance members such as CompassPoint, Fieldstone Alliance, TCC Group, TechSoup and Georgia Center for Nonprofits.
"Marc is no stranger to the nonprofit sector. We look forward to his insights and perspectives on the major issues affecting the sector and how we can build successful nonprofits for the future," Newborn said.
Matters of board governance, leadership and organizational strength will be up for comment, and Morial will speak directly to these critical factors in nonprofit success.
"Our organizations are only as good as the people who run them. Much like the corporate world, we need to take a critical and calculated look at how we build ourselves for the future. That is why I am so pleased to be appearing at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management's Conference this year," Morial concluded.
Founded in 1997, Alliance for Nonprofit Management is located in Washington, DC, and is the professional association of individuals and organizations devoted to improving the management and governance capacity of nonprofits nationwide.
