This workshop is designed to engage participants in reflection and dialogue about their role as community builders or social change makers who assist individuals, communities and organizations in their growth and transformation processes.  The session will include storytelling, case studies and dialogue that focuses on strategic questions such as:  What is a culturally-based approach?  Why are culturally-based approaches important?  What is my role as a consultant, as a community builder?  Throughout the session, the goal is to draw upon the indigenous wisdom of the participants to address questions that go beyond race and look more deeply at concepts of power, hierarchy, leadership, values and other key factors that require attention in capacity building.

Executive Transition Management Services: Step-by-Step Workshop for Implementing in Your Practice

This workshop provides a practice and research-based introduction to executive transition management consulting, a strategy responsive to the aging Baby Boom leadership exodus and increasing change in nonprofit leadership nationally and locally.  Participants will be introduced to a step-by-step review of the executive transition management process for working with nonprofit boards in planning for and successfully completing a change in executive director/top staff leadership.  The workshop offers consultants and management support organization leaders lessons on how to develop or expand a succession planning and executive transition services consulting practice.

Powerful Thinking about Collaborative Leadership: Dialogue for Experienced Capacity Builders

Collaboration and Leadership:  What meaning do you give these concepts in your capacity building work to help nonprofits achieve high performance?  How do your own beliefs and behaviors about these concepts influence your work and ultimately the capacity of the organizations you assist?  We'll explore these questions in this highly interactive workshop uniquely designed for experienced consultants and organization leaders with at least 5 years of capacity building experience.  Participants will engage in creative personal self-reflection and brainstorm ideas with colleagues aimed at deepening our individual consciousness about how we can be more powerful in our own work to live out the conference theme of "teaming up to strengthen the sector."

Strategic Planning Including ALL Stakeholders: A Blend of Large Scale Change Processes

This workshop will review the principles and methodologies of four large- scale change process methods (Future Search Conferences, Open Space, Appreciative Inquiry Summits, and Whole Scale Change) and explore how they can be used and blended in strategic planning for nonprofit organizations.  Blended approaches to large-scale change processes have proven effective with organizations as diverse as hospitals, schools and school districts, social agencies, and indigenous community groups in the United States and internationally.  This workshop will cover factors of time efficiency and maximum effectiveness for implementation, as well as an analysis of the comparative benefits of each approach.

Capacity Building for Organizational Effectiveness

A clear definition and model of "organizational effectiveness" is critical to the work of capacity builders and nonprofit organizations alike. Yet, the field has struggled for a long time with how to define organizational effectiveness. This workshop will present the results of TCC Group research on organizational effectiveness and capacity building and will present a research-based framework that identifies four core capacities of nonprofits: leadership, management, adaptive, and technical capacity.  The workshop will demonstrate how the framework can be applied to organizational assessment and strategic planning, acknowledging dimensions of organizational culture, lifecycle stages of development, mission and programs, and the resource environment.

The Drucker Self-Assessment Tool: Effective Facilitation for Experienced Consultants and Coaches

This workshop will expose consultants to the Drucker methodology underpinning the Drucker Self-Assessment Tool, and offer opportunities for experienced consultants to share ideas around facilitating change and coaching an organization through a self-assessment.  A strong emphasis will focus on effective facilitation and key leadership frameworks such as: dispersed leadership models, teambuilding, audience/participant analysis, training styles, and the learning cycle.
