Paul Hansen, Citigroup/Smith Barney Understanding the role of allied professionals is critical to closing major gifts. The donor's attorney, accountant, insurance agent, broker, or financial planner, are integrally involved in their decision to make a significant contribution. These professionals may be helpful or they may be obstacles to closing large gifts. This session will outline the role of these professionals and how to build strategic alliances with them to overcome obstacles and close major gifts, drawing on the successful experience of the American Cancer Society and other nonprofits. The session will also cover which advisor/allied professionals you should target in the for-profit community and how to meet and network with them to close more gifts. Running a Successful Peer Learning Group Program | ||||||

Leyna Bernstein, Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership of Marin In this interactive session designed for MSOs and other nonprofit assistance organizations, we will examine the challenges and benefits of offering ongoing peer learning as a capacity building strategy. The Center offers 6 different peer learning groups which meet on a monthly basis, and recently launched an Executive Director Leadership Institute which uses peer learning groups as a core learning modality. Topics to be covered in the session include: how to get a group started; staff time and resources required to manage groups; an examination of different formats; utilizing peer groups as an ongoing curriculum development resource; and, a discussion of successes and challenges in managing a peer group program over time.
