Description:

The Cultural Competency Institute for Grantmakers offers an opportunity for individuals and organizations involved in nonprofit support-- through grantmaking-- to learn practical ways to address the reality of cultural dynamics throughout all their work. As a result, grantmakers like you, who lead and partner with nonprofits can make a greater impact. With a nationally recognized team of presenters, the Institute draws participants nationwide.

About the Presenters

Patricia St.Onge, Seven Generations Consulting

StOnge

Patricia St.Onge is a partner in Seven Generations Consulting.  She provides training, consulting and technical assistance in the areas of community organizing, social justice advocacy, organizational development, cross-cultural effectiveness, consensus building, spiritual & personal coaching. She also performs ceremonies and rituals. Previously, Patricia was Director of Education and Training at National Community Development Institute (NCDI). Patricia is the lead writer for the Alliance for Nonprofit Management’s forthcoming Cultural Competency Initiative book, to be published by the Fieldstone Alliance.

Brigette Rouson, Mosaica

Rouson

Brigette Rouson is a Senior Consultant at Mosaica: The Center for Nonprofit Development and Pluralism. Ms. Rouson has nearly 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on building organizational effectiveness and high-impact initiatives. Serves nonprofits and grantmakers through strategic planning, organizational assessments, program development, governance support and other technical assistance. Works locally and nationally, with grassroots and large-scale efforts. Prior to joining Mosaica served as Program Director of Alliance for Nonprofit Management and is still actively involved in new, up-and-coming efforts on cultural competency (racial/ethnic, generational, rural, LGBT, disability, and other identity), ethical standards, and engagement governance. Active in philanthropy through consulting and training, grant review, organizing donors, engaging stakeholders in fundraising—with emphasis on culturally-based, social justice, and nonprofit effectiveness funding. Led a $4 million multi-year collaborative at Ms. Foundation for Women with 33 donor partners—a groundbreaking initiative of grantmaking plus capacity building for girls/young women across the US. Currently on the board of Nonprofit Sector Workforce Coalition to attract and retain diverse, younger generation leaders and employees; and a fellow at Wilder Foundation’s James P. Shannon Leadership Institute. Graduate of Howard University (BA), Georgetown University Law Center (JD), and University of Pennsylvania (MA, and coursework completed for PhD).
