Track:  Cultural Competency

Diane J. Johnson and Steve Lew, CompassPoint Nonprofit Services

Description

Over the past several years, CompassPoint Nonprofit Services has designed and implemented several innovative projects that focus specifically on enhancing the capacity of individuals and/or community-based organizations of color, women leaders and various social identity groups.  This highly interactive workshop will focus on sharing CompassPoint’s learning on the process of executing dynamic and effective capacity building work.  Using the work of the Johnson & Johnson funded Generations project working with women and transgendered women with HIV & AIDS; the W.K. Kellogg and Haas Jr. Fund funded Fundraising Academy for Communities of Color; and the Women Executive Directors of Color network (funded by UPS) as a backdrop, participants will discuss core philosophies, critical assumptions and design implications for working with these particular social identity groups.
