Description

This workshop will expose consultants to the Drucker methodology underpinning the Drucker Self-Assessment Tool, and offer opportunities for experienced consultants to share ideas around facilitating change and coaching an organization through a self-assessment.  A strong emphasis will focus on effective facilitation and key leadership frameworks such as: dispersed leadership models, teambuilding, audience/participant analysis, training styles, and the learning cycle.

 

About the Presenters

Peggy Morrison Outon, Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management, Robert Morris University

OutonPeggy Morrison Outon is the Executive Director of the Bayer Center For Nonprofit Management. She has twenty-three years experience in the not-for-profit sector as development officer, management support professional, and board member & volunteer. She has served as a management consultant to more than 450 nonprofit organizations and conducted more than 200 board retreats, in which she demonstrated expertise in all aspects of fund development, board development, strategic & operational planning, and volunteer management. She has served on 30 boards—7 as president—for causes ranging from Habitat for Humanity to Austin's Women & Their Work, in support of women artists, to the National Alliance for Nonprofit Management. She has sixteen years experience in arts organizations as a development and community relations professional in Austin, TX and in New Orleans, LA. She is a frequent speaker and workshop presenter to many diverse audiences.

 

Vicki Clark, Building the Capacity of Organizations

ClarkVicki Clark has devoted the past 20 years of her life to assisting nonprofit organizations and to building capacity in volunteer, membership based organizations, state governments, and congregations. Board development, inclusion and diversity, leadership, strategic planning, volunteer resource development, effective communications are just a few of the topics she provides to organizations to help them in their efforts to accomplish 
their missions

A noted speaker, consultant and trainer, Vicki is a member of the Peter F. Drucker Foundation’s training team, a Senior Governance Consultant for BoardSource (formerly the National Center for Nonprofit Boards) and the Corporation for National and Community Service’s VISTA training collaboration.   She has served as trainer and consultant in a variety of national organizations and their local affiliates.  These organizations include, the Association of Junior Leagues International, Interfaith Youth Corps, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Prevent Child Abuse America, National CASA, National Council of LaRaza, and Association for Volunteer Administration, Literacy USA, United Way of America and the Association of African American Museums.  Her international experience includes training and consulting in Venezuela and Russia. Vicki has also provided consultation for the Chattanooga Area Community Foundation, and The San Antonio Community Foundation.

For 11 years Vicki served in a variety of positions with the Points of Light Foundation, Washington, D.C. As Vice President, Community Initiatives, she was responsible for the development and implementation of the Foundation’s strategy in support of outreach to local communities. She was instrumental in developing and managing Foundation programs and partnerships, including Connect America and Make-a-Difference Day. Vicki was a member of the program planning committee of Colin Powell’s President’s Summit for America’s Children. During her tenure at POLF, each year, she served on the planning committee for the National Community Service Conference.

She began her work in the nonprofit sector by developing a comprehensive volunteer program for the Youth Victim/Witness Program of Houston Metropolitan Ministries in Houston, TX.   While in Texas she served on the statewide planning committee for the Governor’s Volunteer Leadership Conference.  She was also a member of the executive team tasked with development of the Texas Unified State Plan.  As conference committee chair for the Houston Association of Volunteer Administration she was responsible for planning area conferences and educational offerings for member organizations. 

Prior to her work with nonprofit organizations, she was employed in the private sector in the human resources department for a major defense contractor, and in the publishing industry. Vicki is a past president of the Houston Association of Volunteer Administration and former board member of the Association for Volunteer Administration. She attended the University of Missouri, Columbia and is a native of Memphis, TN.

 

Karen Eng, Leader to Leader Institute

With an extensive experience in intercultural communications, management and marketing, Karen Eng has devoted her career towards intercultural diplomacy, leadership and management, youth and education, and international development issues. She has worked across various sectors: business, government, academic and non-profit; providing comprehensive marketing and communications strategies and solutions.

Karen currently works as Fellow for Communications and Outreach at Leader to Leader Institute, formerly the Peter F. Drucker Foundation. She works on developing cross-sector collaborations and partnerships to promote brand awareness, workshops, publications and membership to further the Institute’s mission of strengthening the leadership of the social sector. In addition, she coordinates workshops and assists in implementing strategic marketing, communications and outreach efforts.

Prior to Leader to Leader Institute, Karen worked for organizations such as Academy for Educational Development, Institute of International Education, and the United States Agency for International Development. She served as Communications Manager for the United States-Asia Environmental Partnership. Karen also worked as an Account Executive in Client Services for a graphics and communications firm, implementing and managing comprehensive marketing strategies for Fortune 500 companies, medium-and-small businesses, philanthropic, cultural and non-profit institutions, universities and associations.

Karen enjoys traveling and has lived in both Germany and China. Her deep commitment to promoting international understanding and cultural awareness has led her to encourage students, clients and colleagues in developing greater cultural competency skills and global awareness on a personal, academic and professional level. She is the Main Representative at the United Nations for Global SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education Training & Research) and also serves as Membership Director for the local NYC SIETAR chapter.
