2007 Best Practices Award Recipients

The Alliance for Nonprofit Management offers specific awards for excellence in "best practices" in capacity building and nonprofit management throughout the nonprofit sector. These awards confer special recognitions on members, corporations, and constituent organizations that have distinguished themselves in the nonprofit sector, the community, the capacity-building profession and the Alliance.


Founders Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient
	Thomas Raffa RAFFA, P.C. Washington, DC About the Award: The Founders Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual or organization for lifetime achievement that has consistently made exceptional contributions, of at least 25 years, to the nonprofit sector— understanding capacity building and the acceptance, adoption, innovation or improvement of "best practices."

Capacity Builder of the Year Award Recipient
	Deborah Strauss Lumity (formerly the IT Resource Center) Chicago, IL About the Award: The Capacity Builder of the Year Award honors an individual, nonprofit organization, foundation or grantmaker who has significantly supported the Alliance’s mission – "To increase the effectiveness of individuals and organizations that help nonprofits build their power and impact," and is presented to an individual in recognition of meritorious service or accomplishment in the field of capacity building. The recipient of this award has demonstrated excellence in "best practices" as a practitioner and has made significant progress and effectiveness within the field of capacity building.

Nonprofit Leadership Award Recipient
	Habitat for Humanity Atlanta, GA About the Award: The Nonprofit Leadership Award recognizes those individuals or organizations that are pacesetters in the nonprofit sector providing a high level of attention, resources or services that elevates the nonprofit sector, especially in the eyes of the public.

Outstanding Member Award Recipient
	Dianne Russell Institute for Conservation Leadership Takoma Park, MD About the Award: The Outstanding Member Award recognizes an Alliance member who has made an outstanding contribution in support of the goals and mission of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management over the past year.

Young and Emerging Award Recipient
Annie Hernandez Trustee Leadership Development, Inc. Indianapolis, IN	About the Award: The Young and Emerging Award recognizes a newcomer to the field who has made an immediate impact to the nonprofit sector with their work or through higher education and professional development—the people who offer teaching, training, or research with a focus on the new stream of talent coming into the field.

Innovator Award Recipient
	Maria Gutierrez CamBia Associates Brooklyn, NY About the Award: The Innovator Award recognizes an MSO or individual for being a change agent, experimenting and bringing to the forefront new approaches, concepts, initiatives or structures that offer inspiration and a model for other capacity builders.

Community Service Award Recipient
	Allegany Franciscan Ministries, Inc. Clearwater, FL About the Award: The Community Service Award honors an individual or organization with demonstrated and outstanding commitment to the community through the work of a local/grassroots nonprofit organization.

Cultural Competency Award Recipient
	National Community Development Institute Oakland, CA About the Award: The Alliance Cultural Competency Award honors an individual, nonprofit organization, foundation or grantmaker who have distinguished themselves through their outstanding commitment to diversity and ensuring "best practices" in cultural competency to the nonprofit sector and/or the population it serves.

Chairman's Award Recipient
	Brooke Mahoney Volunteer Consulting Group, Inc. New York, NY About the Award: The Chairman's Award is selected by the Alliance Chair to recognize a person, organization, or company that has made the most outstanding contributions to his or her chairmanship, the board of directors, and/or the Alliance and its mission, goals, values and principles.

Executive Director's Award Recipient
	Denice Rothman Hinden Managance Consulting Silver Spring , MD About the Award: The Executive Director's Award is selected by the Alliance Executive Director & CEO to recognize a person, organization, or company that has demonstrated exemplary professional service and outstanding contribution in support of furthering the Alliance’s mission, operations and annual goals over the past year.
