Advisory Council: Lucille Dabney

Lucille E. Dabney

Program to Aid Citizen Enterprise

Lucille (Luci) E. Dabney received her Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston and her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. She has over twenty-five years of business experience in the corporate, small business, education and nonprofit arenas.

As an independent consultant she provides services to foundations, local arts agencies and nonprofit organizations in the areas of strategic and business planning, program development, governance and organizational capacity building.

She was appointed by the Cultural Arts Council of Houston/Harris County Board of Directors to serve as the Executive Director in May 1999. She had served as Interim Executive Director for one year. Under her leadership CACHH increased its budget from six to over nine million dollars and acquired Houston's first percent for art ordinance. Additionally, CACHH became one of the first local arts agencies in the country to accept grant applications over the Internet.

As the Director of the Management Assistance and Organizational Development Enterprise (MODE) program she offered broad expertise in defining and delivering technical assistance programs to arts nonprofits. The National Endowment for the Arts declared the program, which she founded, a national model for organizational capacity building for small to midsized arts organizations.

Her varied professional career includes positions in privately held firms, Fortune 500 public corporations and universities. Over the years, she has gained a high degree of professional expertise in many areas including program development, project management, marketing, public relations, strategic planning, and competitive and financial analysis.

An active volunteer, she currently serves as the chair of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management Board of Directors. She is a founding director of the Alliance having served on both the team that merged the Nonprofit Management Association and the Support Centers of America into the Alliance and the search committee that selected its first executive director. She is a frequent speaker, trainer and lecturer.

Equally comfortable from the boardroom to the classroom, Luci uses technical expertise, experience and uncommon sense to provide her clients with the tools to meet the challenges of a changing business environment.
