Professional Experience:

1985 - present: Consultant, Facilitator, Trainer
Private trainer and consultant working with a wide range of nonprofit organizations and associations, assisting them in identifying and creating a preferred future. Clients include a diverse array of nonprofit and for-profit entities, from statewide associations and advisory councils to multi-sector partnerships involving citizen groups, state and local government, and private industry; from local grass roots organizations to regional health care agencies. Libraries, regional health centers, local and regional planning commissions, and cross-sector partnership groups are a major interest. Adjunct lecturer at the University of Michigan.

Within the nonprofit sector, Ms. Glendon has been a presenter and facilitator to mixed groups of all sizes and descriptions. In addition, has had extensive experience as a trainer and consultant with arts organizations, social service providers, advocacy groups, environmental organizations and public agencies. Areas of special interest and expertise: Organization and Program Assessment; Strategic Planning; Board and Leadership Development; Fundraising and Resource Development; Meeting and Partnership Facilitation; Mergers and joint projects; Board/Staff Relationships.

1992 - 1996: President, Nonprofit Enterprise at Work
President and CEO, NEW, Inc. and founding Executive Director of NEW Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a collaborative facility for nonprofit arts and human service agencies. Researched, developed, and implemented plans for both a corporate structure and a community-based advisory group to govern and support a complex organization.

Highlights: Successful $3.3 Million capital campaign; Establishment of the Nonprofit Reference Library at NEW Center, developing this resource into a regional information destination with a superior special collection and online connections; First regional research project documenting programs and services of nonprofit sector was published in 1995, with expanded edition in 1996; Initial research, establishment and continuing development of an extensive program of nonprofit management training and consultation; Establishment and inauguration of the Nonprofit Excellence Awards in Southeastern and mid-Michigan.

1985-92: Executive Director, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra
Hired off the Board to take on the "interim" leadership in a time of crisis, and helped key community leaders transform what was a failing operation into a regional institution. Responsible for building a small, community-based musical ensemble, with a budget of $50,000 per year and a history of modest quality and recurring deficits, into a fully professional orchestra with an annual budget of over $600,000.

Other:
Research assistant at the U of M Institute for Social Research, a Montessori teacher, owned a publishing company which published a successful monthly newsletter on Beaver Island, owned and operated a regional structural design and remodeling company

Education:
B.A. University of Michigan; Certified Meeting Facilitator; Certified Consultant in Excellence and Equity by the American Association of Museums; certified consultant for the Environmental Support Center in Washington D.C. Numerous graduate studies in organizational management, leadership development and training, arts management, technical services, fine arts, architecture, music literature.

Community and Professional Leadership Experience:
Current Board Memberships include: International Alliance for Nonprofit Management; Commissioner, United Methodist Foundation; Board Secretary, Beaver Island Rural Health Center; Northern Michigan Hospital Foundation Healthy Communities Project; Trustee, Ann Arbor Rotary Endowment; Advisory Board, University Musical Society; Trustee, two private foundations.

Past Board affiliations: Ann Arbor Rotary, President; National Nonprofit Management Association; Support Centers of America; Nonprofit Enterprise at Work (NEW Center); Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra; Washtenaw Council for the Arts; University of Michigan Conger Alumnae Association.

Volunteer positions: Current: Nature Conservancy (Northern Michigan); Thrift Shop of Ann Arbor; AAPS STRIVE program; student mentor and reading tutor. Past: Docent, Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA); Speaker, DIA Art to the Schools program, initiating the program in several underserved areas in a five county region; Docent, University of Michigan Museum of Art; Trainer and graduate, Leadership Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce. Variety of volunteer leadership positions related to community, school and church, including numerous chairmanships of major events and fundraising activities.
