Alliance Members Have Enormous Reach Into the Nonprofit Sector;
Demand for Capacity Building Services Increased in 2003
In February, 2004, the Alliance surveyed its members to get a better understanding of members’ reach into the nonprofit sector, the levels of demand for capacity-building services, benchmarking data, and feedback on Alliance membership benefits. At the time the survey was issued, the Alliance had 382 memberships plus 332 additional organizational contacts for a total of 714 Alliance members. Individual members and primary contacts for organizational memberships completed a broader survey that included overall organizational data. Read More>>
Jane Garthson, Principal Consultant, Mills Garthson & AssociatesJane Garthson, a consultant and specialist in leadership, ethics and executive coaching, began her career working with the Ontario government. The turning point on her path to nonprofit consulting came when she was asked to serve on the board of a local community agency that provided therapeutic horseback riding to people with disabilities. Once on, she learned that the organization did not have enough money to make the next payroll. Her own desire to tap her experience in getting along well with staff led to an appointment to the Human Resources (HR) committee, where the committee chair quit after refusing to tell staff their jobs were in jeopardy.
